How we ship

Sea, RoRo & air

The best way to ship depends on what you're sending, how quickly it needs to arrive and your budget. We'll recommend one when we quote.

RoRo vehicles

Cars, trucks and machinery that can be driven onto a roll-on/roll-off ship. For a single vehicle, this is often the cheapest option.

Containers & flat rack

Air cargo

For parts, documents and anything urgent. It costs more than sea freight but arrives in days, not weeks.

Our most common job

Shipping a vehicle from Houston

This is how a typical vehicle export works. The labels show which steps we handle and which ones you or your agent handle at the destination.

  1. Buy

Buy the vehicle yourself, or have us find one for you through our dealership.

    We can do this
  2. Title

A clear title is required for export. We handle lien releases, bonded titles, VIN checks and power of attorney.

    We do this
  3. Store & load

The vehicle is received and loaded into a container, alone or with your other goods. Or it ships RoRo.

    We do this
  4. Ship

It ships by sea to your port. We'll give you the expected dates when you book.

    We do this
  5. Clear

Import duties and clearance are paid at the destination port. We help with the documents and TELEX release.

Rules on vehicle age, duties and required documents vary by country and change often. Check the current rules with us before you buy.

FAQ

Common questions

Can't find your question? Ask us on WhatsApp or call the Houston office.

Are you licensed?

Yes. SG Resources Inc is licensed by the Federal Maritime Commission as an ocean transportation intermediary (NVOCC), License No. 028677. You can check it on the FMC's list of licensed NVOCCs. Our dealership is a licensed Texas independent motor vehicle dealer, GDN P164691 (TxDMV lookup).

How long does shipping take?

It depends on the route, the carrier's schedule and how you ship. Air cargo takes days, sea freight takes weeks. You'll get expected dates when you book.

When is the next sailing?

Schedules change, so ask us for the next dates and the cut-off date for your port. The cut-off is the last day we can receive your cargo for that sailing.

Can I ship a car and goods together?

Yes, in a shared (consolidated) container. What you can pack inside a vehicle depends on the carrier and the destination, so check with us first.

Do you clear customs in Nigeria?

We help with the shipping documents and TELEX release. Duties are paid and clearance is done at the destination port, by you or a licensed clearing agent.

My car still has a loan on it. Can I export it?

Only with written permission from the lender. U.S. Customs requires it. We can handle the lien release for you.

Can you find a car for me to buy?

Yes. Our dealership sources vehicles for buyers in Africa and overseas, and can title and ship them for you.

What can't I ship?

Some items are restricted or banned outright, such as hazardous materials and weapons, and every destination country has its own list of banned imports. Tell us what's in your shipment and we'll check.

Can I get updates while my cargo is on its way?

Yes. Ask your account manager at any point during the shipment.

Do you insure my cargo?

No. We don't provide insurance for your goods. If you want your shipment insured, get coverage through your own private insurance provider. See our shipping & liability policy.

When is the Houston office open?
